Use of Canopies in the concert area at the 2010 Festival
As our crowd increases so do the number of complaints that have to do with our liberal policy on canopies in the concert area. We don’t like rules but we do like people to see the festival so we have decided that canopies will still be allowed in the concert area but they will have to be located in the back of the viewing area. Canopies will need to be located near the top of the hill and will not be permitted in the lower bowl area of the concert area. Thanks for your understanding!
The Local Blues Matters Grand Haven Event
A great big thank you to all that came out to The Dee-Light for our Grand Haven Local Blues Matters fundraiser. We raised over $2600 for local blues radio programming on WGVU-FM. We would like to thank Vincent Hayes for a spectacular job, both organizing the event and his wonderful playing at the event. We would also like to thank Steve Loftis for his hospitality and use of his Grand Haven venue.
Local Blues Matters Fundraisers
| This is really an interesting time for music and performance in West Michigan. Radio has always been a key to bringing new music to a large regional audience. Unfortunately most radio stations prefer to provide us with a diet of “hits” and tunes that we have heard over and over again. While this may be the “safe” approach it is obviously very boring and does nothing for introducing the community to new acts and new songs. This being said there still are a few stations that continue to play new artists and new tunes. In my humble opinion it is these stations that do a great service for our community. It has come to our attention that WGUV is limiting the hours of The Friday and Saturday Night live blues programming due to budget cuts and the general state of our economy.
For many years now Greg Blueben has been bringing West Michigan his take on the blues. Greg has consistently provided a forum for blues from national acts to local acts. He consistently supports local acts and plays their records and even brings them into the studio for live performances. Greg has been an enthusiastic supporter of The Cowpie Blues Festival from its inception. Due to these budget cuts we have decided to donate money to enable the re-establishment “cut” hours of the Friday and Saturday Night Blues Programming on WGVU so that live local blues continues to be a part of West Michigan radio. In order to do this we have decided to host two fund raising events called “Local Blues Matters” that should provide the funding necessary to continue both of these live radio programs. We would be overjoyed if you would consider joining us at one or both of the following fundraisers. All bands have donated their time, there will be CD and Ticket raffles (Cowpie will be raffling off weekend tickets to the 2010 Cowpie Blues Festival) and all funds that are raised will be used to re-establish the radio time that WGVU has decided to cut. | More Camping |
Not only have we opened up a ton more prime stage viewing area we now have even more camping! We have opened up the field directly east of the existing campground for more camping. Doing this has essentially doubled the amount of campground available for the festival.
Comments, Suggestions and Criticisms
Surprisingly we get very little input from folks that attend The Cowpie. We try to do the best we can but we can’t think of everything and we can’t be in all places during the festival. If you have any comments, suggestions or criticisms regarding The Cowpie please get in touch at cowpiebluesfestival@yahoo.com.
